Can I Paint on a UV Proof Strip For My Rolling Genoa?

I have an oldish roller genny, not really worth a 'proper ' sunbrella strip at $38 a meter, is there a paint (rubberised/flexible/UV proof) which I could paint on the luff in lieu?

Otherwise does anyone know of a cheaper uv fabric strip material which I could apply ?

thnx

Take a look at Odyssey fabric - about a third of the price of sunbrella, lasts about 6 years.

If you have an extra halyard and some sewing skills, you could make a pull up sock from light weight material to cover the sail while sitting in port.

Re: Can I Paint on a UV Proof Strip For My Rolling Genoa?

There was a paint North sails were trialing, knowing norths it will work but be super expensive. I think I have heard of someone painting a sail with a cheap latex paint or somesuch, I don't know if it worked... Come to think of it we used to paint the seams on the square riggers sails with a goey stuff to protect the thread from chafe and sun, but duradon synthetic canvas is much less slippery than dacron.

I would be keen to find out myself, It would be very useful.

Throw some insignia cloth on it. Any sailmaker should be able to sell you some. It's peel and stick.
