Canon steering system- cables fouling

Hi - my arends 33 has a canon chain and cable steering system and the chain and wire rub where they cross in the pedestal. Any one know what happened to the canon company ? Cannot find any info for tech support. There is no adjustment in sheaves or chain that will help. Anyone had similar issues ? Thanks.

Different system but similar problems. I had to shim and move stuff to get it to run correctly. I ended up using plastic tree falling wedges to adjust the pulley mounts to get everything to run fair. It leaves you with a good feeling knowing it runs correctly.

Thanks Guy. Unfortunately the exit holes in the bottom of the pedestal are fixed. They are staggered slightly - but not enough for cables/chain to avoid each other in last part of travel.

Die grinder time. Forget about how it is, focus on what you need to do to make it better. Making the holes bigger will let you see that you need to move the pulleys. Just changing the angle may help. You may not need to move the whole thing.

Hi Dunderbird
This is only a chance question
did you sort out your canon steering . Also ronstan brought out the company years ago and then it went up in flames.
What i was wondering is if you ever changed your steering and if so would you still have your canon steering sheaves.
We have a swanson 38 and need to replace one of our sheaves.
So anyone out there who may have a canon steering sheave they dont need or want please message me or my other half.
Thanks guys

Hi - I moved my holes to allow the cables to line up better. Some days it feels like the manufacturer of every bit of hardware on the boat has gone out of business ! I'd look at a Engineering shop making one for you if you can't find one.
