Chain plate cracks

These are the chain plates from a friends 34 year old fresh water only boat ! Four of six have some form of cracking and all have pitting

Crevice corrosion?

Fresh water corrodes.

Salt water corrodes absolutely.

I'd say definitely replace them all and don't cheap out having them made by a general fabrication shop.

Pick a supplier who knows the demands on chain plates and who won't use inferior grade steel, leave stress raisers, not bother passivating them and probably more potential errors I'm unaware of.
Replace bolts & fixings too.

Lots of good engineers on the forum who'll have recommendations, I don't know which suppliers or yards are or aren't reliable.

I know i just wanted those that think fresh water is not a problem to know
The owner is planning on making them himself ? should give me plenty of time before I go back for the install
