Change vang rigging?

On my boat, the vang is setup with a fiddle block attached at the mast with a quick release. At the other end are 2 separate blocks, one with a becket and both connected to the mast with a quick release. This seems kinda odd to me.

So -

1. Why the quick releases? Should I remove these?

2. Any good reasons for the bottom of the vang to use 2 separate blocks? I would think a double block and becket would be much cleaner.

Re: Change vang rigging?

I’ve seen them with the snap shackles so that they can double as a preventer. When the sail is well out, disconnect from the mast step and run to the rail. Also can be used in other situations for hoisting gear or a come-along.

Re: Change vang rigging?

Like Pandor says, the snap shackles give you more flexibility to use the tackle for other things if you need to. The additional block may simply provide a better lead for the line to the winch or stopper. Unless you're planning to get a rigid vang there doesn't seem to be any need to change anything,
