Cheap Asymmetric?

Does anyone have any experience with making an asymmetric by cutting down an old symmetric spinnaker? I have a couple of symmetric chutes but was thinking it might be nice to have a good reaching sail I could set easily without the pole...especially if I could keep the cost down! If I could find an old reaching spinnaker from a larger boat, and then have a sailmaker cut it down to fit my boat with an asymmetric configuration...??? Many thanks, in advance, for your thoughts...

You cannot do it unless you are a sailmaker - you need the know-how, the skills and the equipment. You cannot do it unless the design lends itself to re-cutting.

Ask you local sailmaker for advice and a quote (if what you have can be retro-cut). Or else have an off the shelf asymmetric.
