Why have a bowsprit? Hanging out over the bow to clip on the furler! Sure if you are racing to Hobart, but if you are cruising then why not fly it inside the forestry? Yes you lose some sail area, but you gain in ease of set up and gybing.
I procrastinated for years over a downwind sail, (and yes it is a downwind sail, just lower your mainsail), reading one of Webb Chilles logs he did just this.
Good enough for him, good enough for me.
Need to go to your headsail, just drop code sail to deck and away you go.
