Contender Sailcloth

Following on to my "new sails" thread http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ils-67812.html I have received a quote from the first sailmaker.

They are suggesting sailcloth from Contender High Aspect

Main sail 36m2 - 9,4oz contender Low Aspect
Genoa sail 48m2 - 8,52oz contender High Aspect

I assume that the sailcloth is a Dacron like material but I have no idea if it is better, worse or similar. Anyone got experience with this?

I see they were founded in Holland and are world wide and their race laminates were used on the winner of the 08/09 Volvo ocean race. So I guess Contender are at least not some anonymous manufacturer in China.

Also, the sail cloth weights mean nothing to me other than I can see on the table where they fit in the range. I assume based on the position on the table these weights will be ok, but I am just guessing that.

I want the sails for Med cruising with a possible coconut milk run run to Aus one day.

Re: Contender sailcloth

It is DL €4600 all up. It is supposed to be full batton main but they linked to their roller main description in the email to me. As they mentioned the blocks for my single line reefing and the sail area did not match the roller, I guess the link was wrong, but I have sent a query.
