Dicky Furler

Hi Everyone,

I recently bought a second hand sailing boat with a dicky furler. As you can see from one of the photos below the drum cover does not align properly with the drum. This causes a lot of friction and the drum is very hard to turn or does not turn at all. By tying on new attaching ropes to the drum assembly I got the drum to align temporarily but there was still too much friction.

I also tried taking off the entire drum assembly (please see other photo) and there was no friction but the furling line did not stay on the drum which caused all sorts of problems.

Is it possible to just buy a new drum and cover and keep the rest of the mechanism? Is there any other solutions you guys can think of?

Thank you

Usual problem is the bearings. Take it apart - measure them and then replace them.

Buy from a bearing company as opposed to the manufacturer of the Furler and save some money.

Did mine recently and cost was circa £6 plus my time.

Could be that the genoa is not hoisted high enough. Pull the sail out and crank the genoa halyard.

Re: Dicky Furler

the two screws joining the lowest foil section to the drum have backed out a bit letting the foil slide down & getting stuck. you can see this if you can pull up on the foil (sail removed) download instruction from selden website (looks like a selden furler ) - this problem can occur with several brands
