Re: Do you know what this knot is called

The lower left is two half hitches (clove hitch around a rope); the lower right is a mess. In any case, it's a constricting loop, with the similar functional knot being the tautline hitch.

Keep it simple - two half hitches for a constricting loop, tautline hitch for a constricting loop that is adjustable, and bowline for a non-constricting loop.

This knot is not intended as a replacement for a bowline. It is a slip knot. Could be used like a halyard hitch.

Yep, a bowling is my go to knot, but not useful for what I am using this knot for.
Perfect for a halyard hitch.

So far I think Potbelly is the closest to identifying this correctly...
Closest I say as I think he only got the reference to the East wrong in identifying it as a "dipsydoodleoverundermongaloidhalfbowlinegeezerwit hatwist"

Can anyone tell me what its called?

Basically it’s a clove hitch on a line.

Re: Do you know what this knot is called

It looks like a constrictor knot tied around the bight.

Could be useful. Would be more secure than two half hitches, but could be difficult to untie.
