Doyle APC furler

Hi All:

I am looking for a furler for a Doyle APC cruising asym. Does anyone have an idea what the best product for this would be. I have called the local loft but they are on vacation for a week.

Re: Doyle APC furler

You're looking at a top-down furler for an asym. so any of the continuous line furlers will do the trick. Mine is a Karver. It works well but my only concern is that the area where the line exits the drum is plastic and is being worn away by the friction of the line. I don't know if there is metal underneath or if it will eventually be a problem...time will tell.

Thanks Privelege. At one point I remember that Doyle was a proponent of furling the sail by attaching a line to the sail on the luff that would eventually cause the sail to roll up. I think that the technology has changed now.

Re: Doyle APC furler

That will work on a sail with a straight luff, like a screecher or maybe some Code 0's, where the anti-torsion line is sewn into the luff. In that case the continuous line furler will roll the sail up evenly similarly to a jib. However, an asym doesn't really have a luff and is designed to fly free, therefore it needs to be rolled from the top down with the tack free to rotate independently. My screecher is simple easy to use even when full of wind and winds the sail up with no trouble...the asym on the other hand, I haven't yet tried it enough times to master the neat furl.

Thanks Privilege. Don't know why I couldn't find that in my google search

Re: Doyle APC furler

Facnor has a system using a line attached to the luff of the asemtrical and the torsion rope. I own one and like it, and the price was much more reasonable. However for a bit more money I really like the profurl set up. Profurl is the only system with the patented bearing balls on the torsion rope. If I had it to do over again I would go with the profurl.
