This is a good point. After decades of rock climbing falls, I understand the importance of a stretchy rope. it is what absorbs the energy of a fall. On a boat, though, you don't want so much stretch that you end up overboard. Plus the loads should be nowhere near as dynamic as a rock climbing lead fall.

So, perhaps something half way between dynamic climbing rope and dyneema .....say double braid polyester?
