yes agreed. There are some jib clews designed with velcro pockets for the ring. Is not hard to do if useful.

The skydiving application is a bit distinctive - little to no flogging and large occasional shock loading . . . and life-critical.

I'm interested in the 'thru the loop and over the top' approach to locking. It is just a different approach to the 'close the loop' problem - might (or might not) be able to use it somehow to benefit in sailing applications. The knot is the weak point in diamond shackles and the noose is the weak point in 'stronger' shackles - I wonder how this 'thru the loop and over the top' would change that. The webbing does get rid of the know bends so you are only left with full strength spliced loops but the webbing would seem to have other weaknesses (especially if exposed to the environment which it is not really in this skydiving application) that need to be explored. IDK, am going to play around with it a bit.

I'm actually really curious if you come up with something.
That's the beauty in new tecnologie, there is still a lot to explore.


One could use dyneema webbing to eliminate weaknesses in material compared to the rest of the shackle.
