Electric furling Genoa

Hi All.

Was just watching SV Delos. They have an electric motor on their genoa.

How reliable are these. There’s seemed pretty old and was giving some trouble.

Could be handy when the boss is on watch on her own!

Very reliable. However, as with any piece of electrical gear they can break down.

Re: Electric furling Genoa

If you - or a single crew - can't pull the furling line in all by themselves with the sail luffing, something is wrong with the gear and it needs to be fixed. We had friends with an electric winch that they used for their boom-furled mainsail. It kept right on going when the batten snagged and ripped a hole about a foot long in the sail. Be careful what you wish for.
