Electric Genoa Furler

Hi again everyone . Merry Christmas/Happy New Year

I would love to have an electric genoa furler. Any one have much experience with them. Big boats are are bugger to furl by hand especially if the winds up, and thats when it is most important.

Experiences ??

Regards

Until the boat gets really big an electric winch would be a better plan. That way t can be used for things other than the furler as well.

Re: Electric Genoa Furler

Thanks, I thought of that , but I have great three speed 55 Lewmars that handle the sheets no problem , but really have no space for a motor underneath or by the companionway. (center cockpit)

So I will have to go with a power furler , expensive , I know , but they must be great to use , I have never had the privilege of sailing a boat with one.

Regards

Which Lewmar? Many of them can be converted to electric pretty easily.

Lewmar 55, they have a little grey button on the side for the 3 gear.

I'm very happy with my Profurl electric furler. it is indeed extremely convenient, especially when single handing, fast to furl/unfurl and ultra reliable.

Re: Electric Genoa Furler

Hood genoa furling here. Love it. You can insert a winch handle into the furler motor for manual backup. Furls either way without heading up, on all points. Very powerful motor. Just had mine rebuilt as part of a total refit. Service was reasonable. Have electric primaries and manual secondaries as well.

Re: Electric Genoa Furler

Having a manual backup like Mineret has, is the way to go. Electrics are fine until the electrons fail and you still need to get the job done. Just my 2 cents worth. _____Grant.
