Re: Endurance 35 Ketch Rigging

By abroad I mean as related to where your boat / project is.

If your boat is in Italy, start with checking out your Italian SS sources. Something is telling me they may be amongst the best in the EU.

Remember when the rigging is old, it is ALL old. Depending on how the stays are anchored in the mast, you may want to replace the mast fittings that hold the SS wires as well (I call theses fittings the 'backing plates'). This is pretty common in alloy masts that are supported by SS wires.

Another element down the chain is the chainplates. Pull them out and check them AS A BARE MINIMUM. Bad ones have obvious corrosion signs. Replace.

It is a small boat and so you will do so many things by yourself, look for savings where they are: e.g. by NOT hiring lame contractors you can shorten your boatyard time. This may be a saving in some cases.

Etc.

Have fun fixing her up and then sailing her. E35 are fine boats and I may one day have one of them for my retirement fun.

Cheers,
b.

"I've bought the boat about two weeks ago it's based in Civitavecchia, Italy" Would this by chance be the Endurance where the owner had passed away and wife was selling?

barnakiel,

Yes I think this is the best path to take I come from an aviation trade were we check every pice of the aircraft with a fine tooth cone, I will treat this project in the same respect every thing will be checked and replace accordingly. I'm looking forward to taking it apart and inspecting every not and bolt.

FlippedPip,

Yes you are right Endurance 35 ketch 1982 here name is Madrugada moored in Porto Turistico Riva di Traiano......

Is it the same one ?

Hi FlippedPip,

Whooo, yes I will. Where are you based ? you obviously went to see her.

I think she will need her decks replaced plus the standing rigging inside she was solid !!!!!

Now I'm looking for a marina in that area that will allow me to work on her on the hard stand for a few months if your local to that area do you know any.

Re: Endurance 35 Ketch Rigging

Small world!

I didn't make the trip to see her. I'm based in Barcelona and the logistics and the work required put and end to my dream.

There is another one here in Barcelona. Unfortunately, the layout doesn't suit for our family. We're now looking at a different type of boat for our first boat, a Beneteau Oceanis 350.

The Endurance is something for when the kids grow up and leave.....some day.

Good luck with her.

Re: Endurance 35 Ketch Rigging

Hi Flippedpip,

I'm the same logistics wise, I'm currently in Basel, Switzerland on a job but once I'm finished I'll start on the boat plus I'm single so it's a lot of boat for one man.

Anytime you want to have a look at her your welcome or you fancy doing some work on her your just as welcome, try staying in contact and I'll send you details of her progress.

Hopefully I haven't bought a lemon.
