Ensenada 20 spreaders

I recently purchased a 1972 Ensenada 20'. I noticed immediately that this boat has no spreaders, and the mast is very heavily built. Does anyone have experience with the rigging setup on the Ensenada, and if so, what are your thoughts on the durability of the setup without any spreader bars? I really like the boat, love the interior cabin size for such a small craft, just not sure if I like not having spreaders and/or if this will cause any strength issues. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.
