Forespar tri-reacher strength

Purchased a forespar tri-reacher today. On the way home from the store noticed that it is recommended for asyms only and not for "off shore" sailing. Unfortunately the sales person failed to mention this or was unfamiliar.

We would like to use it for our 100% jib and an asymmetric. The boat is 35 feet and has a J of 16.8 feet. We do sail off shore and would like to use it in moderate conditions 30 ish knots. Should we take it back and keep looking or will it be ok and forespar is just covering their ass?

The model is the 408201.

Thanks

Re: Forespar tri-reacher strength

I read all that after I bought my tri reacher also.
Anyhow I still used it sailing from CA to Hawaii on my 41 Hunter using a 100% jib. Handled wind up to the mid 30's without an issue.
In fact I also used their smaller twist lock pole on the other side for my inner foresail without a problem other than the twist lock wouldnt hold but a hose clamp took care if that problem

Forespar tri-reacher strength

The Hunter 41 sail plan has a very large main sail and a tiny jib. The Hunters that have that type of sail plan can get away with a smaller size whisker pole. For a boats that has a J of 16.8' I would recommend a 12-22 Line Control type whisker pole that uses a UTS, male-female toggle socket for any tine of offshore sailing. 30 knots of wind I would recommend a fixed length 3 1/2" O.D. pole for those higher wind ranges also with a UTS inboard endfitting.
