Furler fairlead/bullseye

I'm not exactly sure what to call this thing which makes it difficult to search for it. I have an old school drum furler that looks like a coffee can with a window cut into it. Sometimes those edges scrape the line and cause it to fray or sometimes the line gets hung up inside the furler. I think the type of fairlead on an arm mounted to the furler might help. I have attached some photos if anyone can guide me in the right direction. The only ones I've seen have a cam attached and I dont want that.

We have a similarly designed drum and have a small lead block clamped to the bow pulpit to make sure the line enters the drum the way we want. It's also easy to adjust by sliding it up and down. Perhaps an option for you?

Re: Furler fairlead/bullseye

Fair leads are a good start.

I had a similar furler on my last boat. It sometimes chafed when roller-reefed. All the way in or out there should be little pressure.

Another thing you can do is coat the area of the line that chafes with Yale Maxijacket (thinning it helps it soak in and reduces line stiffening). I can increase rope wear 5-10 times based on independant testing and personal experience.
