Furling Mast / Mast Steps

Is it safe to fit mast steps on an in-mast furling mast?
Obvious concern is snagging / chaffing from rivets...

What does the inside of your mast look like?

If this....you should be OK as long SAS you screw or rivet on the correct side...see photo

I just removed the lowest mast step in my Selden in mast furler. The foot of the sail was chafing on the rivet.
