Garhauer solid vang SV16-1 black powder coated Al and ss

I picked up above (used) to fit to my boat but I am not certain as to whether it is configured correctly. It had a frozen grub screw in the threaded boss on boom end which I finally coaxed out. Next was an HMWPE washer then a plastic sleeve then HMWPE spring bearer, then yellow spring, HMWPE S B again then SS shaft to mast mount.
Seems an odd setup to me.
Also another yellow spring came with it. Can it be loaded with two springs to have more adjustment? Obviously cut the inner SS shaft to compensate.

Spring bearer is a grommet that fits in end of spring.
