Gibb winches - what's inside there?

I recently acquired a Fisher 30 Motor Sailor. It had sat on the hard for several years, with the masts down beside it, in a dusty, dirty industrial yard.
The Isuzu diesel has come back to life, with injectors and injector pump rebuild. Masts are back up. I'm inching toward sailing.

The halyard winches turn in the direction that would raise the sails, but they're stuck in the other direction.

I unscrewed the screws in the top holes (to use the technical term), ans was able to pull the drums off the spindles.

After an overnight soak in red (for good luck) ATF and kerosene, I've been able to drive one sleeve out maybe 1/4 inch.

I assume there is another set of pawls in there somewhere, and either a spindle of some kind, and bearings, or an inner bearing surface.

The metal parts all look pretty good. I hope to clean these winches up, and use them, at least until I put things together and see how it all works.

So, what's hidden in there? Are there roller bearings?
Will I wreck delicate parts if I drive the sleeve out with a wooden dowel?

That seems right to me, can't picture how it would work if the drum turned both directions.
Here's a You Tube of a Gibbs with fixed handle, looks like nothing is in there, at least they didn't remove the spindle to service them.

Sorry, I didn't explaint it well
The drum usually stays put, but the handle ratchets back.
I this case, the handle is stuck with the drum. Handle will not ratchet backwards
