I think I found the one you you saw for $275. It was made by ATN. It could work depending on how you hatch was situated. On big problem if it is too low the rain will bounce off the deck and back up the hatch.

Re: Hatch Rain Covers

Get some acrylics, make own.

Size well outside the hatch - rain tends to come horizontally in a good blow.

Re: Hatch Rain Covers

@sailorboy1:

We made one for our forehatch, based on a dorade type concept. It is good up to about 22 knots. Above that, we have to close down the hatch to sitting on a champagne cork, or the rain will come in.

The size of the hatch determines all the rest, and remember to have good overlap between the inner and outer water deflecters. We made our first one from a small cheap tarp, to validate the concept, then bought some Stamoid (the heavier of the two weights they offer). Don't know if you like sewing projects or not. If you're interested, let me know, i think I have some drawings I made for it still on the boat, and we can talk about it in more detail. Ours has lasted about 14 yrs., but I had to mend it 2 yrs. ago. The Stamoid's only waranteed for 10 yrs.

If you want to have one made for you, I'd draw it up on 1/4" graph paper, so they can get a good idea. It needs spreaders built in: we used old timber batterns, but you could use dowel or fiberglass rod.

Re: Hatch Rain Covers

I got a heavy duty vinyl tarp that comes with either grommets or straps every foot on Amazon. I think they are made with farmers in mind who are covering things that may be in high winds. I love mine, I use it to cover the hatch or hang it from a PVC frame to make a cockpit shower stall.
