Headsail Cover vs UV Strip

I was at the local marina today and noticed that about 80% of the yachts with their roller headsails mounted were using a cover over the sail rather than just a UV strip.

I'm just wondering if there is a general trend in all locations, with people moving towards the headsail covers or is it dictated by local conditions?

Around Stockholm the wind is usually light, so I can understand why people here are moving away from UV strip.

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Re: Headsail cover v UV strip

A cover most likely will add to the windage if loose, but it will keep the sail better, if you can get a cover to fit very well it would be a good thing for storage, say week/month/year, day to day a uv strip is easier to use. When I get a new sail I'll most likely get a cover too.

Re: Headsail cover v UV strip

A UV strip can only be used on that particular headsail. If you have several headsails, the cover can be used on all of them.
