Heavy Sails

Just a question about sails, I have some pretty heavy sails on my soverel 36 that came wkith it and I was just curious about the benefits of having such heavy sails. My gues would be more for cruising and tougher conditions, anything else or contrary?

Heavy sail == heavy weather. They won't loose shape or blow out as easily. A corollary is heavy sails are for heavy boats since it takes a heavy boat to hold a sail into pressure. A sailmaker knows what is proper for the application.

Is a Soveral 36 like the 33? If so she can't hold a heavy sail up, being a very spry and fun racer.

I'm not 100% positve but to me there is no comparison, the 36 is an old oic heavy racer that any sails made for it would have to be custom made specifically for it.

Your light air performance might suffer, but they should live longer if you care for them.
