Help identifying old electric winch

Hi there,

Does anybody have any idea what's the make/model of this electric winch? A search for the motor make/model didn't help much.

I'm also trying to find out how this (seemingly rubbery, but now more like coal) washer could have gotten burned leaving a layer of soot around the shaft as can be seen on the 2nd pic

Thanks in advance,Attachment 265928Click image for larger version

Re: Help identifying old electric winch

A Google search for Lucas M100 shows it as a starter motor for some British cars.

Re: Help identifying old electric winch

A photo of the winch would help. The washer/seal has degraded due to one or more of the following; heat, friction, ozone, UV exposure, etc.

How weird, I did include this photo in the initial post but it shows up as an "Attachment ..." Link that doesn't work. Anyway, here's a photo of the actual winchClick image for larger version

Re: Help identifying old electric winch

I wonder if that was designed as a warping drum for a fishing vessel? Looks odd for a yacht winch...

Do you know if they're still in business? Only thing I found was https://lucasuk.com/ but that doesn't look like it

Re: Help identifying old electric winch

Haven’t seen the Lucas model for many years, mainly used on big power boats to pull onboard mooring lines ,I think some winch makers still make the same style .⛵️⚓️
