Re: How Long is Too Long to Store a Mast?

Mine was wrapped too tightly on the trucked delivery from the south. Trapped moisture lifted paint in some places. I'm sure it must have been top-side paint and not suitable for continuous wet.

If the OP decides to transport the mast with the boat, wrapping should not be an issue.

In the yard where I started racing 35 years ago all rigs came down in the fall. We stored on a rack (Cleveland) Never any vandalism. Some wrapped their masts & some did not. It was routine for the crew to scrub the mast and re-grease all pulleys, re-run halyards, inspect everything. Its way easier to clean than the boat.

Re: How Long is Too Long to Store a Mast?

Pull the mast and carry horizontally on deck, store it together / close to your boat.
You might rewire / paint or just hug it, and feel confident it’s not damaged or stolen.
