How to re-use sta lok fittings?

I am currently in the process of replacing my standing rigging. I am using Sta lok fittings and I accidently cut one wire too long. I ordered extra cones/formers so that I wouldn't have to buy a whole new fittings, but I am finding it impossible to 1. get the former out of the fitting, and
2. Getting the other half of the fitting off of the wire.

I used 3m 4200 to seal the fitting, so I bought a spray that is supposed to break down polyerethane sealants. But still it is impossible to get the fitting off. I've read to thread the other end on and then wack it with a hammer, but that hasn't seemed to work either. Maybe because the 4200 is brand new it is impossible to remove? There is still an old fitting on my headstay that I could try to reuse, maybe its age will make it easier to take apart?

Did you try applying a little heat?

cut the wire off righr at the fiting then use the right size drift or punch to drive the wire and cone out. I reused the formers, just new cones, I didn't know..

I cut the wires short and place the wire in grips. Then tap the open fitting 'upwards' the old wire. I use a hardwood block to taptaptap it.

I too reuse the formers when they are fine and they have always been fine this far.

Heat yes breaks sikaflex 5200 and possibly 4200 too.

Let us know how it went,
b.
