Hydraulic windlass

Hi All,

I am about to take possession of my new to me boat which is equipped with a Rogers and Lough hydraulic windlass running of an engine mounted pump. The windlass valve is currently located in an awkward position inside the anchor locker which makes it impossible to see the anchor while controlling the windlass. I would like to upgrade this to somehow remotely control the valve from the helm or standing at the bow. How can this be done?

It must be possible since I have seen those cranes on the back of trucks be controlled using levers as well as through a kind of joystick on a portable remote control box.

Cheers.

Re: Hydraulic windlass

If you do it at the bow, you can do it with plumbing only.... I think running a couple lines to the helm would be impractical...

There are plenty of servo hydraulic (electrically actuated) valves to choose from... A little google research will give you an idea of how to start...

Re: Hydraulic windlass

Google double port spool valves. These are the solenoid operated types used on hydraulic furling gear. Not difficult to work with.

Re: Hydraulic windlass

You can convert with Danfoss electro/hydraulic valves.
