ideas on spinnaker pole topping lift for Caliber 28

Hello all,

I am trying to figure out how to run a spinnaker pole topping lift on my Caliber 28. I don't have a dedicated halyard to serve, I don't see an attachment on the mast to hook one up, and the boat has a baby stay. I was wondering if others have ideas on how best to rig a topping lift for a spinnaker pole given this situation.

Thank you in advance for suggestions.

Install a block on the mast above the baby stay. Buy a pad eye that will work with a 1 3/4"-2" swivel block and drill and tap to attach to the mast. Like the Harken Big Bullet blocks for my 28' boat but the newer design phenolic blocks are probably cheaper. Lowes, for one, has drill and tap kits with proper sized number drill and tap. A #10 fastener would probably be adequate but pad eye will determine the size of fastener that you'll need.

Does the mast have cover plates over where you should run internally? If you need to install an external block consider a strap mounting. This spreads the load and will be less likely to pull out.

Thanks sincerely for the helpful replies.

No cover plate for internal.

Will be a fun spring project when the mast is down. 😊

Hi There,
Your topping lift can go below your baby spreader, which makes end for end gybing of the spinnaker easier. just remember to put your spinnaker pole kicker inside the baby stay as well.

happy sailing
