The old response was that with a closed body you never really knew how much thread was left inside.
While that is true, the main reason to never use them is that they hold water internally on the lower half.
The water evaporates, leaves the salt, and the thread interface is being constantly attacked by a high concentrate chloride environment, (one of the worst environments for stainless).
For longevity and peace-of-mind only open body turnbuckles of forged bronze should ever be used.
Sorry Swan, you should know better.
And all-stainless turnbuckles? best used as fishing sinkers.
Thanks for the perspective.

I actually want to replace those turnbuckle bodies with closed ones, but I first wanted the specs on the old ones. Especially the threads.

I've determined the thread size/pitch on one turnbuckle, but another one still doesn't seem to match standard metric thread size/pitch.

Cheers
I'd call them anyway, not sure they did not make some in the past or had someone make them for them.

They always say knowledge is power.
But, I'm pretty certain; I could have beat up Stephen Hawking.

My poor knowledge of Greek mythology...

If all you need to know is the tread size and count get something like that:

Thanks! That's a fun product!

All I really need is the thread size.

Of the two sizes of turnbuckles, one turned out to be M12x1.25 per my calipers and my local hardware store bolt.

The second, I measured with calipers at 18.8mm (.73in) wide and pitch 6/cm (15/inch), which on paper, could be either M18x1.5 or .75in-16. Hard to tell without original specs or the thread measuring tool you suggested, since local hardware/marine store don't carry sizes that large.

Logically, the fact that the boat was built in France, and the first turnbuckle is metric suggests the second one is metric also... so M18x1.5....

Cheers!

No, it will be 3/4” because M18 can’t be 18.8mm afaik

already wrote them twice, no answer...
Zspar the standing rig original all threads are UNF american norm also on french build boats.
I have a FP Lavezzi which has Zspar as original standing rig too, threads of turnbuckle are 3/4" on 12mm wire and 10mm wire is 1/2"

How quaint.
