Island Packet Spar Maker(s)?

Hey, folks,

Anybody know who made Island Packets spars? I have an IP in the yard that has had the conduit in the mast come loose (what a racket!), and I'd like to understand how the conduit was originally attached to the mast. I don't see any pop rivets on the outside of the mast, so I doubt the conduit was riveted on.

Thanks in advance!

Scott

I would just call IP. They probably put the mast together not the spar builder. Even if they didn't they will certainly know how it was done.

My IP 32, 1994, has Isomat mast. Ririte can probably help you.

Jim, I think you meant Rig-Rite:

Rig-Rite Inc. - Masts, Booms, Spars, Rigging, and Hardware for Sailboats.

My hubby said you have to call them instead of doing business online.

The conduit on our 32 doesn't make any noise so it must be attached. Scott, I would simply contact a good rigger in your area. They should be able to help you.

Re: Island Packet Spar Maker(s)?

For Isomat masts typically there are two internal ribs as part of the aluminum extrusion. They are located in the fwd area of the mast cross section. Then multiple lengths of 3/4" sch 20 PVC is slit on one side and slipped over the rib. One usually runs to the top and the other runs part way up the mast (typically to the deck light). To keep them in place there is a single pop rivet down near the mast base down in the cabin.

Options without unstepping the mast are rather limited but easily fixed/replaced with the stick laying on some saw horses.

Go to the Rig Rite site and click on one of the Isomat mast sections. The small T extrusions are visible in the drawing.

Wrong forum to ask. IP Home Port - The Original Website For Island Packet Yacht Owners page will have a dozen people who have made this fix...DIY and professionally. Go to the experts.

Re: Island Packet Spar Maker(s)?

I don't know, I had my mast sitting on saw horses last week, with one loose conduit, and Frankly described exactly my mast.
I did mess up a little I believe as I did not have them replace the conduit with larger diameter PVC, with the addition of a Tri color and an NMEA cable for the Wx station, there in no room at all left, your not getting another wire in that conduit.
A loud hailer and spreader lights wiring filled the other conduit too. I'm regretting now that I didn't think to tell them to install larger conduit.
