Jamming and sticky sail cars inside the mast slide slug

I am trying to find the best mainsail slide/slug for my mast. I don't have the money for the $$ tracks that you put in the grove.

Just wondering what people have done to help pulling up the main.

Buy a can of McLube and spray it in the track as you raise the slugs. Also works on the head stay foil to aid in headsail changes.

Re: Jamming and sticky sail cars inside the mast slide slug

OP - what is the length of your mainsail luff?

Our slugs are plastic, with SS loops. Before stepping the mast, I inspected the mast slot using a homemade gauge and "widener" made from a piece of steel of the desired thickness. I slid it along in the slot, and anywhere it binds I would wiggle the tool to open the slot a little. And I gently filed any rough or distorted spots in the slot. The slugs usually run pretty well now.

The McLube idea is great, and will help keep the slugs moving nicely.
