Lanyard vs Turnbuckle for Small Boats...

Still not up to the working, so thinking about the plans and looking at the rigging. The plans for my project call for lanyards (I'm thinking spectra) instead of turnbuckles.

I was wondering what people think of this...it seems to be a coming trend on small boats, but I've no experience with them. Has anyone here used them?

For standing rigging on a small boat lashings work fine so long as there are no corners to rub against.
