Length of clevis pin

Is there a problem with using a longer clevis pin in a shroud orstay tang, on a masthead assembly, where the cotter pin (spit pin) hole is about quarter to half-inch away from the closest tang cheek?

Re: Length of clevis pin

I just replaced some of my tangs. I noticed the original clevis pins were 1/2" x 1-1/4" This was much longer than needed. Unfortunately only the same size was available locally, IMO getting the right length would be best, but so long as it doesn't foul the mast I can't see a big problem. The stresses are still over the same area.

Re: Length of clevis pin

If the tangs somehow spread farther apart, the stress on the pin would increase.

Can you drill a new hole?
