Assymetric spinnaker, gennaker, cruising chute will all be good search terms.

Not sure why you think they'd need a pole for this.

The wind looks slightly aft of the beam.

Keep in mind that's light wind with no wave.

Add some 12 hour old wave slop, and that will collapse. Fwup Fwup Fwup.

Add a pole and be done with it.

Anywhere in lighter breezes (under 15 kt) with the wind between 60 and 150 apparent, we will fly an A-sail without a thought. I don't even own a pole. It's a certain amount of effort to manhandle it on deck and rig so normally I'll not do that if it's just a few hour sail with tack changes. Just not worth the effort.

That light wind (code zero, gennaker, drifter, asymmetric, etc.) is designed specifically to be used WITHOUT a pole. That's one of the characteristics that make these sails so popular, convenient, and fun to use. Besides, your pole probably won't even reach the clew, and if it did it would be one really long pole.

Check out the ATN Tacker to fly a spinnaker without having to use a pole. Great if you bought a boat with a spinnaker and don't have the crew, or want the bother, of spinnaker pole, sheets and guys. They also make the ATN Mast Climber

Or get a multihull. No pole needed.

It is nice to see all the technical answers, But that picture looks to me like the work of an artist rather than a real photograph?

Well a multi flying a symmetric as an asymmetric would still benefit from a self-made ATN tacker device. I made one this summer and it worked a treat.

Photography isn't about xeroxing the world. The person who took/edited it has processed it in a way that shows their vision/impression of what they saw.

Why can't a photographer be an artist?
I think that's an HDR (High Dynamic Range) picture, meaning it has a greater range of light-to-dark than the eye would normally see. There appears to be some grain added, and perhaps a little reduction in colour saturation. It's a great photo.
