looking for inline clamp on fairlead

Does anyone know of a clamp on fairlead for 1 inch tubing that has the fairlead in-line/parallel with the tube it clamps to?

Lashing on a low friction ring is easy when they are parallel.

Re: looking for inline clamp on fairlead

Unfortunately, because of the direction the line will be coming from and diverted to, I need a fairlead that I can position and won't move. A lashed ring will just spin around the tubing. Thanks though.

This one looks like you could rotate the lead 90º and use longer bolts to hold both the mount and the fairlead. https://sea-dog.com/groups/506-rail-...ainless-insert Perhaps worth calling them to see if the spacing works that way.

This might work out of the box, but is a good bit more expensive: https://www.velasailingsupply.com/al...-block-clevis/

Thanks, I actually ordered one of these and got it today. The bolt spacing is different, so it won't work with that fairlead, but I found a different fairlead that might fit the bolt spacing of the clamp part, and ordered one of those to see how that works.

I don't think this swivel type will work for what I have in mind, thanks!

Re: looking for inline clamp on fairlead

Based on the way most of these clamp to the tubing with a v-shaped bolt-tightened backer, couldn't you simply get a standard fairlead and fashion a v-shaped backer piece and bolt it in place?

Re: looking for inline clamp on fairlead

Yeah, that's essentially what I'm going to try with the clamp part of the Seadog fairlead kit. I found a Ronstan fairlead that claims to have the same bolt spacing as the Seadog clamp, which should allow me to pair them together using longer bolts.

I'd prefer something more elegant looking, like those nice cast stainless fairleads from Wichard/Facnor. I guess this particular arrangement is not a common enough one to warrant a finished product.

I use LFR’s and there’s no spinning around when you lash them down properly. My jib furler line runs through one that gets high load and I didn’t touch it for years!

The trick is to use Dyneema for lashing so that it doesn’t stretch. I like Spyderline.

Re: looking for inline clamp on fairlead

I'll re-explore the LFR option.

You want the line to go parallel with the tubing? This means the LFR must be at right angles. You need to do the lashing criss cross to keep the ring in place that way. It’s easier the other way around because then the tubing settles into the LFR ring and the lashing has less work.

I use LFR’s like this everywhere, from control lines to flag lines and soon I’ll try to make a sort of blocks for hoisting the dinghy. Also, I will try 2:1 running backstay tails with large LFR’s

Re: looking for inline clamp on fairlead

Honestly, for this particular application, I think a fixed fairlead will be easier, so I'll try to use the Seadog clamps with the Ronstan fairlead. I will start looking into lashed LFR's for other uses though.

Sure, just try it with a lfr later to see the difference. I would start with a length of 2mm Spyderline tied to the tubing with a small bowline. Then position the lfr and start wrapping the line around the lfr and tubing a couple of times, pulling it really tight. Next I would wrap cris cros diagonally around the tubing and through the center of the lfr rather than around it. Finish with wraps around the lashing itself and a series of hitches

Hello,

Of course this would end any type of warranty but you could use one of Facnor's 24000102300 articulating stanchion fairleads and have someone weld it in the correct orientation very quickly. The right welder would make it look quite nice.

https://www.facnor.com/product/fairl...n-24000102300/

Thanks.
