Lowering and raising mast

I have a JOD 24. I am looking for a low cost mast raising and lowering way. Any ideas?
Does anybody know any net group links for jod 24?

I don’t know this boat specifically, but maybe some of the videos on YouTube that show other boats and how their owners built good one-man stepping systems will help.

f you have pictures of the Mast step that may help. I have delt with a numbered of hinged and pinned steps that were very easy. The kind where the mast slips over a casting can be a bit trickier but can be solved as well. The other key part is if your trying to do it solo or with help. With help on that size boat it's usually pretty easy. Solo will require some form of side to side support.

Re: Lowering and raising mast

I just saw your post requesting help with mast raising. I raise my mast solo on the trailer or on the water. Maybe you could use the idea. Here is a link to another forum post. Hope this helps, Paul

Re: Lowering and raising mast

Get a hinged mast step and if the mast is too heavy to do it yourself, google "gin pole mast raising". I used to do that twice a year (one time up and one time down) on my Bristol 26. Once you understand how it works it's really simple.

Re: Lowering and raising mast

Here is how I used to do it on a Beneteau 21.
Remove sails.
Slack Backstays.
Remove furler pin, and place furler alongside in a sling.
Prepare 2 lines to connect to cap shrouds through jib track blocks and tailed on both jib winches.
Wind a line around gooseneck to stop mast swivel later.
Place line around heel of mast to prevent slipping aft, make off to bow cleats.

Add main halyard to topping lift to end of boom.
Take slack out of mainsheet.
Disconnect backstay, and tame.
Start letting out mainsheet.
The lines around the jib winches to be eased equally to keep mast centered.
Sheet out main retaining 90 degrees between boom and mast.
Mast lowers onto support (in my case roof racks on a SUV)
done.
