Main sheet and traveler line arranagement

A smart person would have taken a photo beforehand.

I took the lines off to wash them and disassemble the blocks. Now I have no idea how to run the lines again.

The main sheet looks okay on the blocks but I'm sure it ran through that swivel block at the transom somehow. How I have it in the picture seems like a good way to tear the swivel out.

The traveler has the same 2 blocks at each end (I didn't put the other line on in the photos). The traveler lines were tied to the car. At the end of the traveler there is a block on the top and the side. However I run it, I seem to get the line rubbing over something.

Thanks in advance, I appreciate it. I made myself a puzzle.

I think I sorted out the traveller just now. The lines run over the corner of the cars a bit. It doesn't look like the paint is that worn there though.

The main sheet still a mystery.

You are hardly the first, which is why I know that ...

Harken has some excellent references re. reeving tackles and travelers. Google it. Some of them are not intuitive at first.

One of the simpler rules to remember is that if two lines will cross or rub at some point, try to have them running the same direction. Another rule is to never up-size lines for better grip--you will increase friction and wish you had not. The same goes for fuzzy lines. Better, get better sailing gloves.

I'm looking at these photos and I see that you are running the tail of the mainsheet through from the traveller car and then to that block at the stern and then to the winch. This will tend to center the traveller at all times.

I wonder if you couldn't secure the end of the mainsheet to the boom then run the multiparts to the traveller and back twice and have the tail come down to the block at the stern and then to the winch?

Or just run the tail to the winch and don't use that block at the back.

Re: Main sheet and traveler line arranagement

I could try to switch the block between the traveler and boom. It would make a bit of a triangle and create a lot of load on the swivel block. I check underneath, thick fibreglass but no backing plate.

Perhaps straight to the winch is best. I'm not sure what the rear block helps other than maybe stopping lines getting caught on the cars when tacking.

I have no traveller so I don’t have a clue. The model it replaced had one. I’m surprised to see it at the stern of the boat. Sure looks like a lovely boat in beautiful shape. I had no idea how our boom bridle worked. I went on line at Jeanneau. I guess was cost cutting

Re: Main sheet and traveler line arranagement

I would have the hauling end running from the boom to your block on deck and then to the mainsheet winch, one way or the other. That would make your traveler car easier to move side to side. Either tie the working end to the boom instead of the traveler, or just skip the final reeve through the mainsheet block on the traveler car. However you manage it, having the hauling part bypass the traveler and go straight to the block on deck should make the whole system work better. Your traveler lines should work okay as you have them. At least, I don't see any problems with them as rigged, from where I sit. Just fix your sheet and I think you got it.
