Mast pulpits /support at mast

Mast pulpits

Are they centered at the mast or slightly aft of the mast?

What is the recommended distance from the mast all thing considered?

I would appreciate some input as I have seen them all over the place on the cabin top?

Thanks
Wayne

Re: Mast pulpits /support at mast

Lots of variables involved with placing your "Granny Bars". Where do people stand when they're working at the mast? Are they cranking winches? Are they setting up spinnaker poles? Are they dealing with reefing and the luff of the main? Can they reach far enough fore & aft to deal with all those different tasks, or do they not need to? They need to be far enough from the mast so crew can work at the mast and not be hampered by them. Their placement can also depend upon what deck fittings are already in place near the mast. A hatch or air funnel might interfere, or you might want to put the backing plate in the head instead of the main cabin overhead. You have seen them all over the place because that is where they go.
