Options for single-handed mast climbing?

We. have been using this method for the past 30 years. By using a ratchet double block on the bottom and a double block on top allows you to pull yourself up easily and then the ratchet block does not turn when lowering oneself. It provides some restriction. Yes a prusik knot is the best one.

Also we added 2 items attached on the top of the chair ring.
1. a 4 step climbing strop with carabiners at both top and bottom

and

2. A short 5” strop with a shackle or carabiner on the bottom attached to the ring and a carabiner on top.

When we get to the top of the mast we hook the 4 step strop to the spin bale step into it and then stand up. Once standing we clip the short strop carabiner clip into the spin bale. Then sit back down in the chair. This puts us above the masthead allowing work to be completed.

The above is done without removing oneself from the chair and at all times you are safely tethered to the mast.

This is the method many riggers use to service and inspect customers masts.

Good luck with your choice

Re: Options for single-handed mast climbing?

Thanks for the prompt replies. They were just what I was looking for. I’ll order the Mastclimber with a dedicated climbing line.
