Painting or marking Dyneema

What dye, stain or paint would be used to mark Dyneema rope, trying to keep away from physically attaching a marker?

Used a Sharpie to mark one of my halyards this fall. Don't know how well it holds up long-term since it hasn't been out in the sun much over the winter.

A tight seizing will stay put.

But no, paints and markers don't do so well. You have to refresh them, which is easy. Even the factory coatings just rub off. Dyneema is too slippery for paint. It's polyethylene.

We use markers and on bare Dyneema they need renewing frequently (more often than monthly). A whipping (doesn’t need to be sewn) lasts much, much longer before needing renewal.

On polyester covers we renew felt marker indicators every six months or so. Black seems to last best - we use a bright orange marker (on a black cover) and it needs renewal every couple of months. I’m think of putting whippings on there.

I agree with thinwater. A whipping line would do, and the process is very easily reversible at any point in time.
