Proper term for this part?

I need to replace the piece that the main halyard comes through to keep the line from chafing. The opening is 4 inches long x 1 inch wide, older boat. What is this piece called and do they make "blanks" for the unused ones so I can close them off to rainwater?

Thx,D

Re: Proper term for this part?

Jam cleat. Cam cleats have two cam jaws that move, closing on the line to keep it from slipping through. Jam cleats (like what you show here) have no moving parts.

You can close off the holes in the mast that aren't used with epoxygoop. Marinetex might be a good option too. Large holes can be difficult because too much filler will often squeeze through the hole and fall down the mast. The mix needs to be quite thick (peanut butter or thicker) to avoid this, or perhaps tape over the inside of the opening will help contain the filler. Letting the thick filler bulge out on the outside, while still covering the hole is another good technique. The bulge can be shaved or sanded off after it has hardened.

Sorry, wrong pic, I know what jam and cam cleats are. This is more of a guide that the main halyard comes through on the mast. I had one that fit in the opening and it popped out.

Re: Proper term for this part?

I've seen a lot of them where there was no fitting, they just smoothed the edges so they wouldn't chafe the line.
