Question on winches

Hi everyone,
I have a 25' Coranado sloop, witch has 3 winches. None of these are self tailing. Does anyone make an adapter to fit on top of the winch to make it self tailing?

Thanks for your imput.

They do but the purpose of them is to hold the line after you run the line tight. They do not strip the line as you winch the line in. You still have to do that like you do now. They sell them and often indicate they convert a non self tailing winch. It's still may be something you might want to do if you understand what they can do and can't do. They are basically rubber rings with a slot for the line.

Thanks Paul, That is exactly what I am looking for. Any idea where I can get them? So far I haven't found anything like that.

I've never found Barton Marine "WINCHERS" to be of any use, whatsoever.

There is a company that makes a conversion kit for Barient and Barlow winches size #27 through #32 as well as knock-offs of those winche. I have seen the finished product and it appears to be well made. Here is their link Self-Tailing Winch Conversion fits Barient, Barlow, Cathay, Universal and others: Winchmate. FTR, I have no connection with them.

Zeppelin,

Yes, these are true full conversions for a real self tailing winch. The prices reflect that too It's easier to make this conversion than to swap out a winch.

Thanks for the info everyone. The conversion looks good, but is still out of my price range.
