Re-cutting aged sail draft?

I see comments about crosscut sails being a good option for cruising as they can be recut to reduce draft when they age a bit.

Has anyone had this done on a large cruising boat?

I know on mine, pulling the mainsail off is a Big Deal

It's an idea, but I'm not sure how practical it really is.

I think triradial might last longer even not recut.

Yes
Recut to allow change in mast prebend and three seasons of stretch.
Worked great.
Sail was in good condition to start with.

Not worth the effort, especially on a cat. The stress on the sails of not leaning over causes too much deformation and you need good shape to go to windward. There are Dacron weaves now available that are designed for use in tri-radial sails.

Doesn't sound like this is a race sail and you are trying to tweek a bit more out of it.
If the sail is old/falling apart, is there much point in spending money to recut it when it needs to be replaced?

I've asked. It's cost prohibitive now days really. Done properly you are essentially making a new sail with old cloth. Half measures get you a half result.
