Recommendations on how to secure anchor?

Hi there. Got a nice stern anchor set up, 90% done. It's a fortress-16, and is currently sitting in a bracket on the stern, attached to the pushpit.

Wanted to know if anybody had recommendations on how to secure this anchor in a way that will be very secure, but also be relatively quickly releasable. Type of knot? Install friction cleats on the forward facing part of the plate?

I'm very pleased with the bracket by the way. That sucker is secure, highly recommend it to anybody looking for one. But obviously the top of the anchor needs to be firmly attached, too.

I can remove that white plate, it was just there for previous owner's outboard.

Army,

I would consider a soft shackle.

Assuming that you don't want it bouncing around when going hard to windward, make up a heavy bungee with one eye around the inboard side of the rail by the bracket, then another eye that goes to a bungee hook that will fit the raid on the outboard side of the bracket, take two turns around the stock of the anchor. Make it tight. You can make the eyes with whipping or by using hog rings.

Recommendations on how to secure anchor?

Our bracket is different but the same idea. Like Ann described we use a bungee cord wrapped tightly around the shaft and the rail do the pushpit. I made up some wraps of half hitched cord to protect the rail.
Of course, replace the bungee every few years as UV will eventually attack it.

Re: Recommendations on how to secure anchor?

i had a u shaped piece of stainless welded to a small flat plate that is attached to the stanchion - drilled a small hole through the legs of the U and a corresponding small hole through the shank- small stainless steel pin that is secured to the bracket with a light stainless wire so it cannot be lost. pull the pin and lift the anchor to throw it. pin is about 1/8 or maybe 3/16 diameter- it really does not have any load and i dont believe the hole weakens the shank in any meaningful way.

Re: Recommendations on how to secure anchor?

I use bungy cords on the shank of two such anchors (two different boats) using brackets similar to yours. The cords keep the shank from clanking against whatever they are tied to but are easy to remove to deploy the anchor after attaching the rode.

The photo shows a F-16 hung from the bracket with the shank bungied to the pushpit rail.

I had the same need for an FX-37. Mantus make one that is really secure and easy to use. Might be overkill fir a 16 though.

Re: Recommendations on how to secure anchor?

I place the shank of my stern anchor in a 4" diameter PVC pipe that I have attached to a vertical tube of the stern rail with hose clamps. the fluke opens and pinches the pvc tube, which keeps it from rattling around. When in really rough passages I just use a line to lash it to the rail. it works very well and was very cheap.

I mounted my FX-23 on the bow pulpit, in just this ['rocket launcher'] way.
