Replacing sheave on old Lewmar fiddle block

Hi there,

I have this old Lewmar fiddle block with a broken sheave and Lewmar has told me they no longer support this line. I've seen in another thread that there's a store online that makes custom sheaves but even if I was able to get one from there I couldn't figure out how I'd replace the sheave on this block. Does anybody know how?

Thanks in advanceClick image for larger version

You would have to drill those pins out and replace them with a bolt or clevis pin.

Not worth it, IMO, for prehistoric Lewmar gear. Better to invest in some current Ronstan, or hit the consignment shops for a match.

Re: Replacing sheave on old Lewmar fiddle block

I repair old Ronstan blocks by drilling one end of the rivet out and fitting new sheaves and using bolts with the heads and nuts machined thinner. I punch the end of the bolt in three places to stop the nuts from coming off. I do it because I hate wasting a block just because a new sheave is required and I don't like the new style blocks because they have plastic cheek plates.
