Re: Rig change

It depends....but the most likely answer is the cost involved would lend itself to purchasing a sloop rigged boat. If you’ve a long boom and gaff and the mast is well forward, you’d need to move the mast aft to put the CE back in the correct spot. You’d more than likely need a taller mast, etc....

Re: Rig change

Why change a beautiful sloop gaff rig into a humdrum sloop marconi/bermuda rig?

Re: Rig change

sloop: 1 mast (as opposed to ketch, schooner, yawl, ...)
gaff: main with 4 corners, top-edge along a spar that is hoisted up the mast (as opposed to Marconi: triangular main)

Re: Rig change

While I agree with carquinezcoot that it's blasphemy to change from a lovely gaff sail to something other, some details of your boat will be necessary to even begin to make a judgment.
Hull type, length, beam, disp., designer, year, material, etc.
When I designed a proper gaff rig for my boat, I only shifted the designed location of the marconi mast 6" forward. Depending on the type of boat, you may be able to keep the mast in the same place and tweak other things like length of boom, length of bowsprit, etc.
