rigging for a Code 0

My Beneteau 323 has no provision of any type for rigging up a Code 0 and since I have the mast down I want to get started when it is easy. There are no blocks at the front of the mast at the head but there is one immediately above the forestay connection point (15/16 rig). The jib halyard exits immediately below the forestay connection.

Would this unused block be where I would run the halyard for this Code 0? Unless I kept the head of the sail down a fair way I wonder how difficult it would be to get the sail through this place when tacking and the likelihood of wear and tear on the sail.

There is no place to anchor the tack (or the pennant) on the bow so would I need to contemplate a sprit or would a high tack and a pennant give me room to make this work? Thinking about it, I am pretty sure I would have to tack the sail on the outside!

Re: rigging for a Code 0

0 is often the biggest sail and so many of them are rigged outside. But it can also be rigged inside and gybed inside. A small 0 furler goes a long way towards fewer mess ups.

Cheers,
b.
