Rigging refresh

Morning all

After much deliberation and wild plans that included building a Harry Proa in the garage, I am happy to say I just bought a Gemini 105 in good condition. Now I am replacing the rigging. It is looking ok'ish but it is old and I rather replace now.

I need 6 straps, 2 long straps and a 3 plates. I found some on p2marine from Shaeffer but not all the plates and this boat came with modified straps - some decay in buikhead was repaired and beefed up chainplates installed 20yrs ago.

1. Anyone have any recommendations for a machine shop in Daytona beach or nearby where I can get new chainplates machined?

2. Also, are norseman, sta-lok etc are very reliable? I don't have experience with them, so, no throwing shade at them. I wondered if a loop around a thimble and crimped swage that allows inspection is better but have limited knowledge and might be hard to bend a 1x19 316 around a thimble at the 1/4in

Thanks all

1. We make a lot of chainplates here at The Yacht Rigger - you could send us your old ones and we would copy them.

2. Mechanical fittings are very reliable. Norseman is out of business though, but Sta-lok, Blue Wave, and Hayn all make very reliable fittings - they are more pricey than swage fittings, but tend to be more reliable long term - because they don't develop cracks in the same way that the work hardened swage fittings do. Having said that, the cheaper swage fittings should still get you a solid 10-15 years depending on location/use case.
A lot of rigging shops (including ours) will have you mail them your old rigging and then reproduce it for you - much more cost effective than using mechanical fittings.
As for nicropress eyes around thimbles - no - far less reliable than swage or mechanical fittings.

Thanks Yatch rigger. Are you guys on 15th Ave in St Petersburg? I can call and talk to one of you. Should I ask for a specific person and any specific number to call? If it is against forum rules, would you PM me the name and number to call?

I am trying to take the mast down this week if possible and will be able to remove the old chain plates and take measurements.

Thanks

Yes that's us. Feel free to call the number on the website and ask for JC in the rigging department. This is Stephen typing. I can help as needed too.
JC will handle the rigging portion as needed, and he can connect you with our fab team re the chainplates - Fab is lead by Brian.
