Safe powerful degreaser for Furlex

I want to degrease and then regrease my furlex bearings. They are pretty gummed up with old crusty grease. I'd like to use something strong like carb or brake cleaner that will just disolve that stuff, but I'm worried about damaging the plastic and any rubber parts inside. Can anyone suggest a powerful degreaser that will be safe for my furlex? Thanks!
